The Pomodoro Technique.

“no great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness” – Aristotle.

In the case of the above quote, I can only hope to be a little mad. I would certainly consider his mentor Plato wilfuly submitting to death for the preserve of law and order a little crazy.

The little mad thing that I want to talk about it my blog/journal today is the Pomodoro Technique. It is something that I love and recently, I have been using it daily. For those of us who don’t know. Pomodoro is the Italian word for tomato. This tomato however, relates directly to time management. It is a time-management technique. Francesco Cirillo, the chap who invented the technique based it on a tomato shaped cooking timer that he had. The idea is basically is that time is broken down into 25 minute chunks, with 5 minute breaks.

I am not going to claim to understand how it works. But for me, it certainly does. Today for example, I have split my day into 16, 25 minute chunks. It is certain that I will complete a lot work in those 25 minute chunks. In my brain, that is work time. See below for an example.

My Schedule for the day.

In the above example. It can be easily seen how much work I will get done. Hopefully a lot! This system of 25 minutes on 5 minutes off allows me to differentiate when is work time and when is play time.

Now for journalling time. Yesterday was a good day in that I completed all my university work. The process of learning the Primary Curriculum is a long one but not something that I will shy away from. The day included P.E., history and English as well as more preparation for this assignment that I will write. I may even add the final assignment here, on my website. Why not?

What I could have done better – Yesterday, I whiled away the evening playing a computer game. Whilst this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It is playing on my mind today that I essentially just ‘wasted’ a couple of hours. For today! More work, less computer games.

My long term goals – This isn’t a section that I included yesterday, but it is something that maybe I will include more in the future. My immediate goal at the moment is to complete the PGCE Primary course that I am on. Long term however, I want to circumnavigate the world on a push bike. More about that later!

Gratitude for the day – Today, I am pretty thankful for being healthy. This Coronamadness is difficult in that I am stuck in the house. But I am healthy none-the-less. I should be grateful for that!

I learned a lot yesterday, one aspect that I would change however, is that I didn’t practice any Chinese writing. My first day not doing it in a while. I will definitely make room for it today.

Until Tomorrow!
