A languages plateau.

“The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.” – Marcus Aurelius

Recently, I read Marcus Aurelius’s Meditiations. I completely agree with the above quote. Writing this journal definitely helps me to organise my thoughts. Like everything in life though, I just need to find the time.

I have been busy with The PGCE. It leaves me without time to practice one of my loves: Languages!

When I play music, I feel that it is akin to riding a bicycle. I can pick it up and keep going from where I left off. Spanish however, is not the same. My Mandarin level doesn’t require practice everyday for maintenance but I will practice. The Spanish does. I will make more time for Spanish language practice.

What I could have done better – Recently, I could have definitely been a better student, I have not yet typed up the notes from the most recent placement(I spent a week in a nursery). It is a requirement of the course that I spend some time in early years. Honestly, I really enjoyed this week. Playing music, reading and teaching counting to the children is something that is hard to dislike.

What went well – As above, I had a great week in nursery. Perhaps, not something that I would want to do full time. It is something that I enjoy.

Long term goals – Today, as every other day since September, my goal is completing the PGCE course. I miss my daily practice of languages and music. The course must come first.

Health – I have lost a bit of body fat over the last week. Yesterday, I had a bit of a wobble. Today, I am feeling better for a healthy diet.

What I learned today – I have just completed an English seminar about Talk for Writing. My main take away from the session was promoting self-efficacy. Something I completely agree with. We need to train students to believe in themselves.

I have another online session now.

Until next time…..
